Help Kittens Find Fur-Ever Homes During Kittypoolooza
San Antonians can adopt a new cat or kitten for as little as $ 15 this Memorial Day Weekend during Animal Care Services’ Kittypoolooza.
The reduced adoption fee is set to help hundreds of cats and kittens find homes, including kittens from dozens of litters that entered the shelter this spring.
Along with lower adoption costs, the event will also allow approved foster parents to adopt their kitten after their temporary foster leave is up.
Shannon Sims, interim director of Animal Care Services (ACS), says that spring often brings more puppies and kittens to the shelter, but that they have seen an even larger increase in kittens than usual, so the need for homes is urgent.
“One of the biggest impacts you can have is taking and nurturing these young animals,” he said earlier this month.
ACS-approved foster parents receive food, supplies, and medical care for their pet. Adopted pets are given vaccines, sterilization, deworming, and a microchip.
“All you do is open your heart and your home,” said Lisa Norwood, public relations and outreach manager at ACS.
ACS relies on nonprofit partners to house animals, including the San Antonio Humane Society, the Texas Animal Defense League, and SA Pets Alive !, but even with those and dozens of other organizations helping, the need for cat and foster homes remains high.
No appointments are required to visit ACS. Interested foster parents can apply online at saacs.net.
